Chiba (千葉市) is the capital city of Chiba Prefecture, Japan. It is located about 40 kilometres (25 mi) southeast of Tokyo. The first records related to the city of Chiba record the emigration of Taira Tsuneshige (1083–1088). Today it is one of the Kanto region's primary seaports, and is home to Chiba Port, which handles one of the highest volumes of cargo in the country.

Hoki Museum

Opened in 2010, Hoki Museum is the country's first museum dedicated to Realist painting. The collection of over three hundred works includes pieces by well-known Japanese artists such as Morimoto Sōsuke and Noda Hiroshi. The museum is served by JR Sotobo Line at Toke Station.

Chiba Shrine

Located in the centre of the city, Chiba Shrine is a Shinto shrine dedicated to the Shinto deity Myoken, the personification of Polaris, the North Star. Several festivals are held at Chiba Shrine every year. Among others, the Myoken Taisai Festival has been a tradition since 1127. Portable shrines (mikoshi) are carried through the city as a parade and back shrine, led by the rhythm of a giant taiko drum.

Chiba Port Tower

Built in 1986, Chiba Port Tower is a 125 metre tall tower located in Chiba Port Park. It was built in commemoration of the population of Chiba Prefecture exceeding five million at the time. The main observation deck is located on the fourth floor at 113 metres. It gives a 360-degree view of the surrounding area. Makuhari New City, Chiba Marine Stadium, Chiba Zoological Park, Chiba City Hall, and Mount Tsukuba can be seen, among others.

Inage Seaside Park

Inage Seaside Park is a large coastal recreation area with an amphitheater, BBQ facilities, a pool, gym, cycling paths and a waterfront promenade. Located on Tokyo Bay, the park offers a view of the ocean, Tokyo skyline and spectacular sunsets. On a clear day, Mount Fuji also can be seen.
