Rottnest Island is a pristine, peaceful and mostly untouched island located 18 kilometres from off the coast of Western Australia, close to the city of Perth. This protected nature reserve is home to Quokka, a wallaby-like marsupial, whom is the most photographed creature on the island!
Whilst on the island, you will be able to enjoy many of the white-sand beaches, secluded coves and all different colours of blue in the crystal clear waters surrounding the island. This is a nature reserve, so you will not find any cars on this island. Don’t worry though, there are a number of alternative ways, how you can check out this place.
One is by an Island Explorer bus, which goes in a 90-minute loop around the island’s only road. This bus will stop at every stop, allowing you to hop-on-hop-off as you please. Other options include a hire bicycle from the Rottnest Island Pedal and Flipper. These guys have over 1300 bikes there, so you will definitely have enough to choose from.
My favourite way to see this amazing island is by plane. Yes, you heard me right. This might sting your wallet a bit more, however, soaring in the sky with the Rottnest Air Taxi is the best way to really get a visual of just how beautiful this island really is!
The best way to reach the Rottnest Island is by a 25-minute ferry ride from Shed B in Fremantle, which is situated only a 30 minute drive South-West from Perth. Although, the ferry runs regularly seven days a week, it is recommended to book online to avoid waiting lines.View Less
