Louangphabang, (Lao: ຫລວງພະບາງ) or Luang Prabang, is a city in north central Laos. Due to it unique and remarkably well preserved architectural, religious and cultural heritage, a blend of the rural and urban developments over several centuries, the Town Of Luang Prabang was inscripted as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1995. The city is well known for its numerous Buddhist temples and monasteries. Every morning, hundreds of monks from the various monasteries walk through the streets collecting alms.

Wat Xiengthong

Wat Xieng Thong (Temple of the Golden City) is one of the most important Buddhist temples in Laos. It remains a significant monument to the spirit of Laotian religion, royalty and traditional art. There are over twenty structures on the grounds including a sim (the congregation hall), shrines, pavilions and residences. Wat Xieng Thong was built 1559-1560 by the Lao King Setthathirath. Until 1975 the wat was a royal temple under the patronage of the royal family and the Lao kings were crowned in the wat. The wat is considered as representing typical Laos art and craft.

Wat Sene

Wat Sen, also known as Wat Sene Souk Haram, is a Buddhist temple that was built in 1718 by King Kitsarath with 100 000 stones from the Mekong river. It literally means "Temple of a 100,000 treasures". It was restored in 1957 to commemorate the Buddha’s birth 2500 years earlier.

Royal Palace

The Royal Palace ("Haw Kham") was built in 1904 during the French colonial era for King Sisavang Vong and his family. The site for the palace was chosen so that official visitors to Luang Prabang could disembark from their river voyages directly below the palace and be received there. The palace was then converted into a national museum. The architecture of the building has a mixed of traditional Lao motifs and French Beaux Arts styles. The grounds also include a few other buildings such as the Royal Barge Shelter and the Royal Palace Museum.

Mount Phousi

Mount Phou Si is a 100 m high hill in the centre of the old town of Luang Prabang. It lies in the heart of the old town peninsula and is bordered on one side by the Mekong River and on the other side by the Nam Khan River. Mount Phou Si is a religious site, and houses are several Buddhist shrines. At the summit of the hill, overlooking the town and surrounding countryside, is Wat Chom Si. It is a very popular spot to watch the sunset.

Night market

The Luang Prabang Night Market is located on the main street (Sisavangvong Road) in the city centre. It mostly caters to tourists with every kind of souvenir that one could want. There are also stalls along the alleyway between the Night Market offers Lao street food, including baguettes, crepes, and barbecue skewers.

The Traditional Arts and Ethnology Centre is a museum showcasing the arts and culture of Laos' diverse ethnic groups. The museum shop sells handcrafted souvenirs such as textiles, carvings, and silverware.

The Living Land Farm

The Living Land Farm offers a "Rice Experience" Tour which shows visitors how rice is grown on a farm and how the traditional tools are used to process rice in Laos. Visitors will also get to learn how to use some of these tools.

Kuang Si Waterfall

The Kuang Si Falls is a three tier waterfall about 29 kilometres south of Luang Prabang. These waterfalls are a favourite side trip for tourists in Luang Prabang. The falls begin in shallow pools atop a steep hillside. These lead to the main fall with a 60-metre cascade. The water collects in turquoise blue pools as it flows downstream. There are well maintained walkways and bridges and most of the pools are open to swimming.
